11/7/2016 0 Comments Weekly ReportThis past week has been yet another very full and very week. In total, I have conducted three interviews with various different photographers across the North DFW area and have gained some valuable insight and information as to what professional photography means to various different members of the field. My favorite part of the interview process is the versatility and uniqueness of various different individuals responses to similar questions depending on their experiences, preferences, and their sub-field of photography. Another favorite experience of mine during this past week has been the ability to work with professionals that are very grounded and personable in their willingness to work with young photographers in the field such as myself. It is very encouraging to see how some people are so open and forthcoming with information and advice. Over the course of this week, my interviews have covered many bases, answered many questions, and provided me with insight and directions in which to focus my efforts and time while studying photography in a professional, and less hobby-oriented view. After this week I have gained a new wave of energy and hope that one of my interviews this week, or one in the near future may hold the key to securing a mentor. I look forward to securing a mentor in the future and taking my ISM experience, my photographic skill, and my inquiry of knowledge to the next level.

10/31/2016 0 Comments Weekly ReportThis past week, unlike the past few and the ones to follow, has a fairly stress-free feel to it. Though I am going to be busy with work from my various other classes and with starting a new job, I feel as if it was not too chaotic in nature. This past week I focused on what I had learned from my first interview, developed more in-depth questions from that, and prepared myself for the upcoming week of interviews. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't nervous for the upcoming week. In order to combat this feeling of uneasiness and nervousness, my week was focused on strengthening questions, responses, and conversation flow as well as gathering all of my supplies such as each interview's outfits, my portfolio, and notes/questions per each interview. Though I am nervous, I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with professionals in a field that I want to study, and have the potential of possibly being granted the fortune of securing a mentor in the near future. My goal for my upcoming interviews is to ask not only my baseline questions, but to have the ability to ask questions more directed towards the specific photographer, their line of work, and various questions that involve what photography means and represents to them. After such a positive experience I my first interview, I look forward to the upcoming interviews and hope that I have experiences as beneficial and as positive as my first interview.
10/23/2016 0 Comments Weekly ReportThe week is finally here, the week that I start knocked out phone calls and interviews with professional photographers! This was a very exhilarating week, although kind of nerve-wracking, it was such a great experience when people answered the phone, the conversation went smoothly, and an interview was scheduled. This had happened a few times for me and I was able to set up several interviews for Saturday, the 22nd, one October 30th and a couple that are still in the works as far as a date and time are concerned. My first interview (yesterday) went along so smoothly, and I am so thankful for that! I felt as if all of my preparation and rehearsal greatly benefited me this week took on communicating with professionals. I find it so fascinating how much you can learn from an individual just by having something in common and asking a few questions. After such a positive experience during my first interview, I am excited for what's next!
10/17/2016 0 Comments Weekly ReportWell this week has been a fairly short week but busy nonetheless! I am excited to announce that this week has been well spent preparing and rehearsing interview questions, voice-mails, messages for receptionists, and even being prepared for the inevitable on-the-spot handful of questions as I am conducting phone calls. I am so nervous to begin calling people. I have emailed the majority of my contacts as long as I was able to find an email address for them, but I have not had any luck with responses so this weekend and throughout next week I will begin calling people and following up on calls in order to secure several interviews. In class this week we did not do much besides preparing for setting up interviews and preparing our location presentations for next week. Though the presentations are not directly related to our topics of study, I am excited to take the idea that I have an run with it. As nervous as presentations make me, I almost enjoy getting up there and being able to practice presentation skills!
